Hostile elements target Hazara community

By Sajjad Shaukat

While conducting other kinds of subversive activities, foreign hostile elements have also intensified sectarian violence to destabilise Pakistan. In this regard, although target killings and bomb blasts have continued on sectarian basis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi, yet situation of Balochistan province needs special attention where on January 10, this year more than 100 people, a majority of whom belonged to the Hazara community lost their lives in the twin bombings in Quetta. The incident was the dark day, as it was the worst ever sectarian attack on Shias of Hazara community.

The deadly terror-event resulted in severe reaction by the people of Shia community and non-Shia human leaders of political and religious parties, who strongly condemned the incident, expressing solidarity with the Hazara community. On the call of the Shia Ulema Council, members of the Shia community held a protest demonstration on January 12 in Islamabad and blocked the Faizabad Interchange. Several people including members of the Hazara community, representatives of non-governmental organisations and human rights activists participated in the demonstration, carrying banners, inscribed with anti-government slogans. In this respect, Shias held rallies all over the country, marking January 13 as a day of protest, while the Balochistan government announced three days of mourning.

In wake of strike in Balochistan, while shouting slogans against both the federal and Balochistan governments for not providing security to Hazaras, Shia families refused to bury their dead and vowed to continue their sit-in protest until the army takes over security of the city. Hundreds of women and children braved the severe cold for a number of days, as they stood alongside more than 60 coffins carrying victims shrouded bodies.

Taking cognisance of the magnitude of the sectarian attack and reaction of the Hazara community in Quetta blasts, leaders of political parties like Asfandyar Wali (ANP) Imran Khan (PTI) and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain (PML-Q) urged Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to impose governors rule in Balochistan. Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif, head of the (PML-N) and many political figures including those of the ruling party (PPP) joined the chorus for the removal of Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani who failed in controlling the deteriorating law and order situation of the trouble-hit province. Notably, he went abroad to avoid criticism regarding the incident.

In that backdrop, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf who visited Quetta and talked to the protesters announced in principal to invoke Article 234 of the constitution and imposed governors rule in Balochistan, as demanded by the bereaved families.

Although the sit-in protest was ended by the people of Hazara community, yet sporadic sectarian violence on these Shias cannot bee seen in isolation as it includes multiple anti-Pakistan dimensions which need appropriate analysis.

It is notable that secret agencies like American CIA, Israeli Mossad and especially Indian RAW are behind sectarian violence in Pakistan, which has been accelerated in the past few years. In fact, the US had planned to spark a civil war between the Sunnis and Shias in wake of war on terror. So, we cannot blame these secret agencies without solid evidence.

For the purpose, a study of the Rand Corporation, titled US Strategy in the Muslim World After 9/11 was conducted on behalf of the then US Deputy Chief of Staff for Air Force. The report of the Rand Corporation-a leading think tank, released on December 27, 2004 advocated that Sunni-Shia sectarian division should be exploited to promote the US objectives in the Muslim World. It indicated that a majority of the worlds Muslims are Sunni, but a significant minority, about 15 percent of the global population is Shias.

The report of the Rand Corporation was first implemented in Iraq. In this context, CIA also got the services Mossad and RAW to fuel sectarian violence in Iraq. In 2004, major terror-attacks were carried out against the Shias in Karbala and Baghdad, while US-led some countries accused Iran and Al-Qaeda for the incidents to divert the attention from the said secret agencies. Afterwards, a chain of Shia-Sunni clashes started between Iraqi Shias and Sunnis, targeting each others mosques through bomb blasts, suicide attacks, and killings of their religious leaders. The general masses of both the sects, which could not grasp the reality, began to blame each others group for the subversive activities.

After Iraqs experiment, more deadly pattern of sectarian strife and clashes have been conducted in Pakistan. While in Balochistan, besides other acts of sabotage, sectarian assaults on Shias, particularly on those of Hazaras have continued in order to fuel sectarian riots in the province. In this context, on September 3, 2010, a deadly suicide attack in Quetta killed more than 55 people who participated in the rally of the Al-Quds Day. In another violent attack, on July 30, 2011, 12 persons were shot dead in Quetta when unidentified armed men opened fire at Suzuki van. During the months of June and July, in four separate incidents, around 40 Shia Muslims were gunned down in Quetta. On many occasions, the enraged people went on a rampage and set tyres. However, in September, 26, 2011, Shia pilgrims were killed in Mastung when a group of armed men attacked a passenger bus carrying Shia pilgrims from Quetta to Iran.

Five persons were gunned down on March 28, 2012 when a van carrying people of the Hazara community of Shias was ambushed on Spini Road in Quetta. Recently more people of Hazara community have been targeted by the militants, while attacks on the Hazara-Shias keep on going unabated.

In fact, some banned religious outfits like Lashkar-i-Janghvi and a Sunni militant group Jundollah (Gods soldiers) which have claimed responsibility for a number of terror assaults on Shias, especially of Hazara community in Balochistan get arms and ammunition from RAW and CIA. These foreign-backed militants groups are behind target killing of many Sunni and Shia leaders, political figures of these sects, bomb blasts etc. in order to achieve the covert designs of the US, India and Israel.

These external-supported affiliated insurgent groups kidnapped and killed Iranian nationals in Pakistan including Iranian diplomats. Jundollah conducted many subversive acts in Pakistans Balochistan and Iranian Sistan-Baluchistan. In this regard, Tehran has directly accused CIA of funding these types of terror attacks.

While hinting towards US, Irans Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei rightly disclosed, The bloody actions being committed in Iraq, Pakistan and Iran are aimed at creating a division between the Shias and Sunnisthose who carry out these terrorist actions are directly or indirectly foreign agents.

Reliable sources suggest that Lashkar-i-Janghvi, Jundollah, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other similar fundamentalist organisations have close connections with each other, while RAW has hired the services of the Indian Muslims who have penetrated in these extremist outfits which are not only behind sectarian violence in other parts of the country, but are also targeting the people of Hazara community in Balochistan.

It is mentionable that killings of Shias of Hazara community is part of the strategic game of US, India and Israel to create unrest in Balochistan which has ideal geo-political locationand especially due to its Gwadar Seaport which will link Central Asia with rest of the world. China has invested billions of dollars to develop this port. Moreover, Pakistan is a declared atomic country, while Iran is determined to continue its peaceful nuclear programme. Therefore, US-led India and Israel have been sabotaging Pak-Iranian ties clandestinely. Their secret agencies have been assisting Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and other separatist elements to dismember Pakistan.

So, all these hostile elements which are responsible for other perennial subversive activities in Balochistan like terror attacks on the security forces, target killings of Punjabis, Pushtuns, Iranian Shias, patriot Balochis and people of Hazara community are also behind the twin bombings on the Hazara-Shias in Quetta.

Now the right hour has come that instead of manipulating various issues, Pakistans politicians and media including all the segments of society must show selfless unity with the security forces and law-enforcing agencies so as to improve the aggravated situation of Balochistan.

JKDYF demands inquiry in Gaza killings

Srinagar, MTT News Desk: Strongly condemning the latest Israeli aggression in Gaza Strip, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Youth Federation (JKDYF) today took to streets seeking an international inquiry into Israels latest action which left over a hundred helpless people including children and women dead in Gaza.

Shouting slogans and raising placards in their hands, hundreds of JKDYF activists assembled at press enclave in Srinagar against Israeli attack in Gaza. Advocate Arshid Hussain Baba, President and Abdul Rashid Yatoo General Secretary JKDYF led the protest rally and later tried to march towards Lal Chowk but were stopped by the police.

While addressing the protesting activists, the two youth leaders urged the international community to rise to the occasion and put in efforts to broker a long lasting and durable peace in the region.

Advocate Baba and Mr Yatoo also appealed the Indian Prime Minister to use his good offices to mobilize the world community for cessation of hostilities and ensure no more casualties of innocent and helpless Palestinian people take place in Gaza.

The JKDYF leaders also condemned the role of US in supporting Israelis crimes in Palestine. Three billion dollars annually in US aid to Israel is paying for the weapons used to kill Palestinians.

Such attacks pose threat to regional peace and stability and it was the responsibility of world community to rise above, all their political considerations and ensure a long lasting peace in the region, JKDYF activists demanded.

The federation condemned police action on its activists and demanded immediate release of its leaders including advocate Baba, Mohd Afzal Parray, Javed Ahmad, Sabzar Ahmad and Fayaz Ahmad Khan.

West is so biased in Favor of Israel

By Saeed Qureshi:

There looms a colossal danger of the Israel-Hamas conflict to escalate further entailing huge loss of life and infrastructure. There is no parity between Hamas and Israel in military paraphernalia and size of fighting force. Israel is one of the leading military powers although its size is equal to that of New Jersey (22000 sq. km). She has the potential to blast the whole of Gaza (365 sq km) in matter of hours. She can shower bombs and missiles on Gaza and for that matter on any Arab land.

The latest conflagration that if not checked would pick up momentum and result in huge chaos and unimaginable mayhem in Gaza. Already several scores of Palestinians have been killed and injured in the conflict. Three Israeli citizens have also died. With the invasion that Israel would embark upon, the whole Gaza may be reduced to heap of rubble and cause countless casualties of the Palestinians.

In recent times this is the second mammoth offensive launched by Israel against the Hamas in Gaza Strip. A similar Israeli assault on Gaza launched during the winter of 20082009 is known as Gaza massacre. In that offensive as many as 1,417 Palestinian and 13 Israeli were killed.

This time Israel plans to enter Gaza with a ground force of 75, 000 regular troops and around 16,000 reservists. Isareli army has positioned itself around Gaza with tanks and artillery. Also thus far the Israeli war planes have carried out 950 air strikes targeting missiles sites, residential homes and official buildings. It is a full-fledged war triggered by Israel against a 1.8 million highly dense population.

The Hamas militants are continuing their rocket firing towards the Israeli territory which they claim as the most powerful weapons in their arsenal Iranian-made Fajr-5 rockets: a much superior weapon than homemade projectiles (Qassam) used by them in the past. Hamas seems to be undeterred by the impending dreadful offensive. But it surmises that Hamas is prepared to have the showdown with the Israel in the same way as the Hezbollah countered Israeli military might in August-September 2006 through a guerrilla war.

In Lebanon offensive, despite brutal air strikes and naval blockade, Israel could not score a complete victory and had to withdraw after 34 days of fighting following a UN truce resolution. In that conflict 1,300 Lebanese people and 165 Israelis died. It severely damaged Lebanese civil infrastructure. Besides, one million Lebanese and 300,000500,000 Israelis were displaced.

While European countries and also the United states repeatedly talk of the Israels right to defend herself, no one even in passing mentions about the most repressive and humiliating conditions the Palestinians are subjected to by overbearing Israel.

The world community does not have the conscience to talk of the coastal blockade that Israel has imposed on Gaza strip by strictly checking even the food items and essential drugs that are brought in. The residents of Hamas are in virtually siege as in a concentration camp.

The world at large does not ask or counsel the powerful Israel not to build new settlements and barricades in the Palestinians territories.

The latest conflict is the result of killing of Ahmed Jabari, chief of the Gaza military wing on November 14.The western countries do not blink when the military commander of Hamas is killed by Israeli war planes. He may be a terrorist for Israel but was a respected leader of the Hamas.

The European Union, United States, United Kingdom and other Western countries condemned the Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel and expressed support for Israel’s right to defend its citizens. Iran, Egypt, Turkey and several other Arab and Muslim countries condemned the Israeli war efforts.

Israel has to perceive the new ground realities that have emerged in the Middle East after the December 2008 Gaza offensive and in the aftermath of the Arab spring that is still apace. Egypt one of the strongest allies of Israel, is now with the Hamas and would not join Israel in taking a united stand against the Hamas militants. Sooner or later, there would appear a formidable block of regional Islamic states that could thwart Israeli plan to keep her hold over Gaza and other Palestinian territory.

Would it not be in order and a demonstration of justice and neutrality if the European nations tell Israel to not resort to the use of excessive power for such provocations that can be settled by mutual negotiations? If Israel stops treating Gaza as its colony and relaxes and softens its stifling restrictions and suffocating conditions on the residents of Gaza, the purpose of stopping the rockets aimed at Israeli land could be effectively and durably stopped.

Are the western countries oblivious of the United Nations resolution number 181 adopted on 29 November 1947 that calls for the creation of independent Arab and Jewish States and the Special International Regime for the City of Jerusalem?

In the ongoing ominous conflict if the Hamas somehow can offset the military offensive of Israel as the Hezbollah did in 2006, then it would be a great disgrace and losing of face for her. Israel must ponder that how long the West and the United States would support and come to her rescue by trampling the canons of established justice and showing partisan and deliberate blind support for her. It should also be perceived that in due course, Iran and Egypt and other regional states can become militarily as strong as Israel is. With their support the beleaguered Palestinians could pose a greater challenge to Israels military superiority.

Israel has to grasp this fundamental fact that it would never be able to maintain its security militarily or by denying the legitimate rights of the other party that is Palestinians. Israel should live with Arab states not in constant state of belligerency but as a peaceful neighbor. Any military takeover would be short lived and breed contempt and nurse continuous hostility between Israel and the Arab states.

Israel must come to terms with her neighbors through peaceful dialogue and by brokering a peace treaty for coexistence and good neighborly relations. That would not only secure Israels existence permanently but would make it a partner in the prosperity and development of that region ravaged by six decades of unremitting tensions and warfare.

Obama to Chain Asian Watchdog (India)

India today is trying to blindly follow the policies of her military Guru Chankiya, where she is frantically driving for fulfillment of her eventual trance of Greater India and emergence of a sole regional power of South East Asia. India has long-standing policies and strategies to make and keep Pakistan as a lame duck and now taking advantage of the current situation she wants to destabilize a sole nuke Muslim power. Perception is there that India in collaborations with USA and Israel is imposing pressure and polices on Pakistan. Manomohan Singh is visiting USA now. Thus, Obama if serious in fighting war against terror has to chain his Asian watchdog (India). He should askIndian Prime Minister to stop interfering in Pakistan’s domestic affairs.

Indo-Israeli Plot against Pak-Iranian Ties

Although the whole of Islamic world is target of Indo-Israeli plot, yet the same has intensified in case of Pakistan and Iran. It is because of the fact that Pakistan is a declared atomic country, while Iran is determined to continue its nuclear programme. In this regard, US-led some western countries have also been supporting the Indo-Israeli nexus against Islamabad and Tehran overtly or covertly.

India-Israel selfishly restraining USA from abandoning Afghanistan

The British, German and the French military commanders in Afghanistan as well as of other Nato countries having fought the resistance forces in Afghanistan for the last eight years to subdue militancy are now having second thoughts. They say that force is not the answer and a political settlement through process of dialogue should be found to end insurgency. Despite rapidly rising number of Americans disfavouring war and opposing troop increase in Afghanistan and Obamas approval rating dipping, Obama Administration is still favouring continuation of Bush aggressive policies. Obama says it is war of necessity and has repeatedly expressed his resolve to dismantle, disrupt and defeat al-Qaeda and is still optimistic that war will be won. In pursuance of the stated objectives, Af-Pak policy was framed in February and approval for increase in troop level by 21000 given. These troops were to be shifted from Iraq toAfghanistan by December 2009 to take the total of US troops to 68000. Border belt astride Pak-Afghan border was declared as the battle zone since in US reckoning, bulk of Al-Qaeda leadership and other operatives were hiding in this area.

Iran’s Nuclear Rights and the UNSC Bully

Unipolarity, unilateralism and double-standards are the hallmarks of the US-led western civilization. Israel’s missiles face Mideast, Europe and elsewhere but the Western rogue states have not objected to that. Very recently, Iran has test-fired a series of medium- and longer-range missiles that put Israel, parts of Europe and US bases in the Gulf within potential striking range. But this has been viewed as a threat to Israel and Europe

Nuclear Iran: A Headache or a Heal? – IV

by Sohail Parwaz

In my first column on this subject I wrote, “Interestingly, the issues on which the US, France, and the UK are making a hue and cry were once hatched and sponsored by them. How could one forget that it was the US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger who had signed the National Security Decision Memorandum that very generously laid out the niceties of the sale of nuclear energy equipment to Iran?” I still maintain my words that the baseless and bogus logic given now by the US and the Western world are not acceptable to the world. I would insist upon my earlier saying why the logic given now did not strike the astute Americans at that time when, out of sheer sincerity and love, they were…

Troika Storming Terrorism

By Zaheerul Hassan

The major population of the world has strong perception that growing militancy particularly in Asia is the outcome of hated and subjective policies of America India and Israel. Most of the US leaders deceived their nation on the name of expansion of communism, socialism and Islam. Jewish, western and Hindu media is further involved in horrifying the community by presenting bleak picture of Islamic way of living. In fact the depreciation in world peace is due to the state terrorism of troika (US, Israel and India). The issues of Vietnam , brutality of Palestinian and Kashmiri, supporting Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’s in Sri Lanka , depriving and torturing Sikhs, Tibet-China clash , Water Conflicts of India with her neighbouring countries , disintegration of Russia, South Korea and Iran Nuclear Issues, Iraq and Afghanistan recent problems are somehow directly linked with Washington, New Delhi and…
